Informatics driven Target-identification, assessment and prioritization
Target identification and validation is one of the biggest challenges in the pharmaceutical industry, with many promising treatments failing in the clinic due to efficacy or target-related safety issues. The reason is usually that the underlying hypothesis turns out to be wrong, or there are unwanted consequences of modulating the target. Due diligence around a target early on, can make the difference between success and failure of a program. We offer informatics-driven selection, assessment and prioritization of potential drug targets.
Our offerings
- Target Dossiers
- Knowledge graphs for the therapeutic area
- Target identification and validation
Target dossiers
Target dossier is a compendium of structural, functional, pharmacogenomic, and safety aspects of a target (Figure 1). Automated information retrieval technologies combined with scientific expertise, help in gleaning insights, thereby enabling executive decisions and program design. These modular dossiers serve as a ready -reference for various teams throughout the drug discovery program.

Knowledge graphs
We create knowledge graphs around the therapeutic area of interest which helps to establish relationships, identify key pathways and networks, and understand the mechanism of action (MOA) to elucidate the role of a target in disease. The knowledge graph combines multiomic data with clinical evidence and published information over the protein interaction subnetwork. It generates mechanistic hypotheses, identifies key markers, and helps build disease models. The disease networks can also be extended to the quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP) model.
Target identification and validation
We combine knowledge from multiomics data analysis, network biology and literature mining to identify- the role of the target and assess its therapeutic potential in the disease of interest. Various parameters pertaining to druggability, specificity and efficacy are critically analyzed and scored to create a prioritized set of potential targets. Our holistic approach brings higher rate of clinical success.
Syngene process for target identification
For identified set of targets, experimental validation is run in Syngene’s state-of-the-art experimental laboratory in the Biology operating unit.
Animal Health
In addition to the extensive target identification and prioritization work carried out for biopharma companies, we can also help you assess targets for suitability including potential for repurposing drugs/targets in animal health
