We meet our corporate social responsibilities with the same commitment that we bring to our scientific research. While fulfilling our mission to improve the lives of people and patients through scientific research, the company aims to contribute towards improving the quality of life and environment for the communities around us and build social and economic equity. Enabled by the Biocon Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of the Biocon group, we undertake community-based environmental and social programs and provide access to basic amenities in collaboration with the state governments and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). Our CSR strategy is developed in consultation with multiple stakeholders, refreshed regularly and implemented based on a need’s assessment of local communities. Most of the programs are undertaken for a minimum of three years to provide sufficient time for an intervention to become sustainable.
To strive towards developing and sustaining healthy and empowered communities by improving the quality of life.
To support innovative solutions for major developmental issues in order to achieve sustainable social and environmental impact.
With the support of needs-based assessment studies and in-depth community engagement, we have identified the following focus areas:

Education is a powerful tool to drive change in communities. Our aim is to invest in initiatives that deliver high-quality, inclusive education and promote learning opportunities for all, focusing on underserved youth in rural areas.
Concern about the environment is common to all communities to allow future generations to live in safe, healthy and environmentally stable surroundings.
Syngene undertakes a series of measures to address the needs of education, health, civic infrastructure, housing, water and sanitation in rural Karnataka. Rural development projects have far-reaching positive impacts, and CSR-prompted initiatives can secure real and lasting benefits…..
In collaboration with the Bangalore City Police, this program funded counselling and rehabilitation for women and children who need police support. The program offers medical assistance, legal aid, vocational training, educational support and short-stay and rehabilitation.
WHO has proposed a Global Action Plan (GAP) framework to attain Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) targets to end all forms of malnutrition by 2030. Our intervention has extended micronutrient supplements, including iron and folic acid tablets to reproductive age and pregnant women in line with the GAP. It promotes age-appropriate infant and young child feeding and care practices and sensitizes adolescent girls to nutrition and reproductive health.
It was not just our healthcare programs that persisted through lockdowns. In a bid to support the government infrastructure, Syngene committed a significant part of its CSR contribution towards setting up an ICMR-approved lab that would conduct RT-PCR tests for the Government of Karnataka. Approximately 3,57,000 RT-PCR tests have been completed for the Government of Karnataka. (This figure includes employees and their families tested)
